Swedish scientists develop ‘electronic soil’ to boost crop growth by 50%

  • Linkoping University researchers have developed an electrically conductive ‘soil’ that can enhance crop growth, especially barley seedlings, by 50% in 15 days.
  • The soilless cultivation method, known as hydroponics, uses a cultivation substrate called eSoil, specifically designed for hydroponic cultivation.
  • The research, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, suggests that hydroponics could be a viable solution for food cultivation in urban landscapes and regions with limited arable land.
